How to play

RGO Class is a practice game. The main game uses made up companies. The Real Market tab uses real prices. No real money is ever used.

For students: 9 easy steps

  1. Join your team

Your teacher shows a join code (and a square QR code) on the big screen. Type the code, pick your team, type your first name, and make a secret 4 number PIN. Remember it! The same name and PIN get you back in on any phone.

  2. Look at the market

Each row is a made up company. The big number is its price. ▲ green means the price went up. ▼ red means it went down. The little line shows what the price did lately.

  3. Read the news

Tap News. Headlines tell you why prices move. Green cards are good news and can push a price up. Red cards are bad news and can push it down. Some days say “No news”: prices wiggle sometimes for no reason, and that is normal.

  4. Make a trade

Tap a company. Pick how many shares. Set a STOP price (tap “5% below” to make it easy). Check the box that shows how much you could lose. Write why you are buying. Press Confirm buy. A reason is optional. After the trade, tap a face (😄 😐 😢 😡) to say how you feel, and add a reason if you want.

  5. Let your stop protect you

If the price falls to your stop, your team sells automatically so one bad day cannot sink you. You can raise a stop to lock in gains. You can never lower it.

  6. Check the ranks and earn badges

Tap Ranks to see every team and its stars. Two days after a trade you get a trade card that shows what the price did next. Collect badges on the Team tab. Open the Learn tab for quick cards about stocks, and check them off.

  7. Try the Real Market

Tap the gold REAL tab. It has famous companies like Apple, Nike and Disney at their real prices, about 15 minutes late. You still use pretend money, and the same rules apply: a stop on every buy and no more than 25% in one company. Your teacher can open it from the start, or it unlocks when your team earns 3 stars or the game ends.

  8. Pick your language

Tap the globe box at the bottom of the screen to switch between English, Español, Français, Kreyòl ayisyen, 中文 and العربية. Your choice is remembered on that device. The quiz questions stay in English for now.

  9. Close out before the bell

Watch the days left at the top. When time runs out, anything you still own is sold automatically. Want out fast? Tap SELL EVERYTHING on the Team tab.

Rules of the game

How you win: 100 points

With team roles on, 5 of the 10 reflection points become Teamwork: posting ideas for your Trader.

Sitting out does not win. Playing smart does.

Words to know

Share
One small piece of a company.
Price
What one share costs right now.
Stop price
A safety line. If the price falls to it, your team sells on its own.
Net worth
Everything your team has: cash plus the value of the shares.
Score
Your team's points out of 100. Highest score wins.

For teachers: 12 steps

  1. Sign in at the Teacher page and make a class. A game is made for you right away, so the join code works immediately.
  2. Set the game: how many minutes it lasts, whether Real Market is open from the start, unlocks after 3 stars (the default), or is off, how many trading days, and the starting cash. Turn on the 12 question pre-test and post-test if you want. Paste or upload a roster so students tap their names. Change anything until you press Start.
  3. Teaching several periods? On the Teacher page, add all your periods at once, or copy one game's settings to your other classes. Press Print stock list to hand students the company list (it is the same for every period).
  4. Put the Projector screen on the big screen. While you wait, it shows a QR code and the join code. Students scan it or type the code.
  5. Optional extras in the game settings: Team roles (a Trader who alone trades, plus Analysts and Reporters who post ideas), Pop-up trivia (a quick question every few days; right answers earn the team bonus cash), Real Market, and a parent permission slip you can print (students wait to trade until you mark their slip on file). On a class page you can add co-teachers by email.
  6. Make teams fast: pick a team size (4 works well) and press Random or In join order, or drag names between teams. You can turn on Team leaders so only one student per team buys and sells. Teams lock when you press Start, so set them first.
  7. Check the "joined" count next to Start. If students or teams are missing, you get a warning first. When everyone is in, press Start.
  8. Use Pause to freeze prices, the clock, and trading on every screen. Resume continues. End game closes everything at the current price.
  9. Results page: besides the score table, you see Real Market standings, pop-up trivia results by team and student, and (with team roles on) a Teamwork column. While you set up, the permission slip counter lists who is still missing. The projector can switch to a Real Market board, shows each team's Trader, and flashes a banner when trivia starts.
  10. Open the Itinerary to see every news story by day with a teacher-only note on why it moves the price. Do not show it to students before the day.
  11. A student forgot their PIN? Press Reset PIN next to their name, then tell them the new one privately. Words that are not kind (profanity, slurs) are blocked in names, reasons, ideas and feedback. When a class is done, you can delete it and all its data from the class page. Data is also deleted automatically about a year after a class's last activity.
  12. When the game ends, open Results to see the score breakdown, the quiz growth by student and by question, and download the CSVs.
